Themes
The SVO scheme covers the following themes:
- Security culture
- Chain responsibility
- Sustainable asset management
- Transparent sector
- Safe business parks and clusters
- High-quality knowledge of dealing with hazardous substances and high-risk processes.
Moreover, each year, several focal points are defined, and projects that put these points into action get more funding than others. The three spearheads of the SVO in 2024 relate to:
- Cooperation between companies within an industrial cluster (more intensive and transparent)
- Safer design and use of process equipment, pipelines and installations (‘Safe-by-Design’).
Optimisation of best working methods, techniques and operating procedures (aimed at safety improvements to go beyond current standards).
Objectives
The SVO (in Dutch: Subsidieregeling Versterking Omgevingsveiligheid industriƫle activiteiten) is designed to back supra-legal (not required by law) initiatives for environmental safety that are created by partnerships and sector associations. Environmental safety refers to the safety status around activities that involve dangerous substances or high-risk processes. The initiatives should contribute to further enhancing environmental safety in the Netherlands.
Details
Partnerships and sector associations are the primary beneficiaries of this scheme. Additionally, small and medium-sized (SME) industrial companies that seek external guidance on safety culture and safety assurance can apply for it. The SVO grant supports four types of projects:
- Process and organisational innovation
- Training
- Environmental study
- External consultancy (for SMEs)
